Education Outside of the Classroom

Here at Burnside Primary School we try and engage the children in learning opportunities outside the classroom. Our philosophy is based around providing a real world context for learning so children can make connections with different environments. This gives our akonga (learners) a rich and inspiring opportunity to investigate, enquire and learn.

 

Our education outside the classroom programmes include:

 

• Year 5 and Year 6 Camps - Hanmer Springs Camps and Wainui Camps

 

• Christchurch City Council LEOTC Programmes

 

• Farm Visits

 

• Natural waterway restoration projects, including riparian planting and water monitoring

 

• History/Social Science day trips to visit museums and galleries

 

• Fishing Trip to The Groynes
